Additional AgriStability Support

In light of recent challenges facing our agricultural sector, such as China's imposition of tariffs on key Canadian exports, Kody Blois, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Rural Economic Development, announced enhancements to the AgriStability program on March 22nd.

Summary:

  • Increased Compensation Rate: The compensation rate will rise from 80% to 90% for the 2025 program year, offering greater financial support to producers facing significant income declines.

  • Higher Payment Cap: The maximum payment cap will double to $6 million, ensuring larger operations receive adequate assistance.

  • Accelerated Payments: Provinces and territories now have the option to enter agreements that allow for interim payments at a higher rate and initiate Targeted Advance Payments in response to specific challenges, such as tariffs or disease outbreaks. This means eligible producers can access up to 75% of their estimated final payment for the 2025 program year more promptly.
